Home > Services > Irrigation > Irrigation in King City Underground Lawn Irrigation and Sprinkler System Installation in King City, Ontario. Visit our Visit our Green Warriors has installed a number of sprinkler irrigation systems in King City, all of which can be programmed to follow a schedule that is set to comply with the water restriction rules in place. With your irrigation system taking care of the work for you, you are free to enjoy the summer without having to worry about fines or dry grass. Installing a sprinkler irrigation system is worth the initial investment. The product will last up to—or over—a decade when it is professionally installed and properly maintained. The cost of the irrigation system is negated when you account for the savings that a sprinkler system will bring to your monthly water bill. The irrigation system works to water the lawn evenly, and reduce the amount of wastewater from over-watering. This also helps to reduce erosion on slopes, because grass that is watered consistently and evenly will have a well developed root system that is able to help the soil maintain its structure. Your irrigation system even plays a role in minimizing plant disease and fungi in your yard, because it is set up to prevent standing water. Drip irrigation systems deliver the water directly to the root ball of your plants in a garden bed, and practically eliminate moisture loss due to evaporation, and help keep your desirable plants healthy while reducing the weeds which would compete for the available water. With the sprinkler irrigation system being an ecologically friendly addition to your property that is economically friendly on your water bill, the value of having a sprinkler system installed is also reflected in the increased property value of your home. The curb appeal that is brought on by a healthy, lush, green lawn adds aesthetic delight, and signals a well-cared for property. The amount of time that a sprinkler irrigation system will save you is priceless—enjoy spending more time with your family doing what you love, and less time watering the lawn to keep the grass from drying out. Your irrigation system takes out the hassle of finding someone to care for your grass while you are away in the summer, and travelling is a breeze when you know you are coming home to a green lawn and not a dead one. The automatic programming of the irrigation system will open your schedule and give you peace of mind that you don’t have to adjust your day and bend your plans around watering your lawn. The sprinkler system will effortlessly follow the restrictions set out by the township of King City, and help you keep your neighbourhood charming and beautiful. • How to apply granular fertilizer | Step by step guide | Green Warriors Landscaping

Home > Learn > How to apply granular fertilizer Step by step Guide Step 1. Measure out your fertilizer. Follow the directions on the bag carefully! Determine the size of your yard then measure out the right amount of fertilizer. The total amount of fertilizer you need to be calculated using ONLY the lawn area of your yard. DO NOT include areas that are covered by patios, walkways, driveways, sidewalks, garden beds, etc. Never apply more fertilizer than directed on the label! You can burn your grass! Step 2. Fill the spreader Use a drop or handheld spreader to help you to distribute the fertilizer more evenly. Fill the spreader on the sidewalk, driveway, or other paved area where you can test and fine-tune the application rate. Sweep up any fertilizer that spills on your paved area and return them to the hooper. Never fill the spreader hopper when it's on the lawn! Set the spreader settings to correspond to the amount of fertilizer you want to apply. Unless the instructions direct differently, use the spreader on the lowest setting. Booking for 2022 Sodding and Landscaping projects is OPEN! Secure your spot! Book Now! Green Tips Fertilize the lawn when the blades of grass are dry. The granules tend to stick to wet surfaces, which will burn the grass blades on contact. Dry grass also makes it easier to sweep up any spilled granules in the grass. Step 3. Apply the fertilizer Spread fertilizer over the edges of the lawn first. Then move back and forth between the edges. To avoid missing strips, make sure to overlap the path of the wheels when using a drop spreader. Turn the spreader off when you reach the end strips, when you come to a stop, or when you’re turning around to avoid uneven application. Walk in a straight line so the wheel tracks from the first pass will give you a guideline to follow on the next one. Move at your normal walking speed. Your speed affects the rate at which the fertilizer is applied. If you have a spill, clean up the fertilizer as best as you can (you may want to try a vacuum cleaner) and flood the area with water to prevent the lawn from chemical burns. Leave a 20-foot safety zone around wells and streams where no fertilizer is applied. Step 4. Watering Water the lawn thoroughly after fertilizing. Watering in the fertilizer washes the nutrients into the soil where lawn roots can use them and where they won’t be washed away by heavy rain. Watering also gets the fertilizer off the leaves which may cause burning. A dry lawn is more likely to burn than a wet one. Step 5. Maintenance Apply fertilizer every 6-8 weeks for the best results. Learn more about the Fertilizer Application Schedule. Dead Lawns do tell tales Fertilizer is strong stuff. If it is applied too heavily, it kills the grass, which turns brown and takes weeks to recover. Learn what to do if you burn your lawn with fertilizer! Turf Tip Fertilizer spreaders are made of metal. Fertilizer left in the hopper in amounts large or small will cause the mechanism to corrode and rust. Make it to habit to wash the spreader out with the garden hose immediately after you finish a fertilizer application. Once dry, give it a quick spray with WD-40 or similar lubricant to increase the life span of the tool and to make it much easier to use next time. • Kentucky Bluegrass description | Sod grass | Green Warriors Landscaping

Home > Learn > Kentucky Bluegrass description Kentucky Bluegrass (Poa pratensis) description. Common name Kentucky Bluegrass Scientific name Poa pratensis. The genus Poa is the Greek word for grass. The species name, pratensis, means 'of the meadows' referring to the common habitat. Plant family Poaceae (Grasses) Name origin. Is Kentucky Bluegrass blue? The name Kentuckybluegrass derives from its flower heads, which are silvery-blue when the plant is allowed to grow to its natural height of 60 to 90 cm (2 to 3 feet). If you're lucky enough to find a field of Kentucky Bluegrass that has grown to its natural height, you'll definitely see where the name bluegrass comes from! History of introduction European settlers are generally thought to have brought seed of the species with them when they established their homesteads in central and northern Kentucky in the 17th and 18th centuries. Kentucky bluegrass grows well as a pasture grass on the limestone soils of the region. This cool-season, sod-forming perennial grass is also palatable for grazing animals. And that’s thought to be one of the reasons it was established in the central and northern regions of Kentucky. Booking for 2022 Sodding season is now OPEN! Secure your spot for new sod installation! Planting method Seed or sod Type of grass Creeping. Spreads via underground stems called rhizomes which help it fill in thin areas and crowd out weeds. Growing habits Erect, cool-season perennial. This means it comes back year after year and grows most vigorously during the cool seasons of fall and spring. Drought resistance Goes dormant during a drought but recovers. Shade tolerance Fair Heat resistance Good. Cut at upper end of height range during drought Cold resistance Excellent. KBG has the greatest cold hardiness of all the common cool-season lawn grasses. It's used most extensively in northern climates where moderately warm summers and cold winters align with its natural preferences and growth cycle. Wear resistance Can stand occasional abuse, from which it quickly recovers. - Sod installation - Sodding FAQ - Sodding promotions - Irrigation system - Landscape Lighting - Sodding Warranty - Articles for Kentucky Bluegrass sod and labor Best mowing heights 2 inches. Mow when lawn height reaches 3 inches. Fertilizing Feed 3 to 5 times per year Erosion control Kentucky bluegrass is an excellent erosion control plant because of its dense, vigorous turf forming habit. It can be used as a mix with legumes or other grasses for erosion control in conservation cover, waterways, field borders, heavy use areas and critical areas such as steep banks and pond edges. It is also used alone or in seed mixtures as permanent cover for tree plantings and orchards. Roots Kentucky bluegrass has fairly shallow roots, but the roots form a fibrous network and create a dense sod. Leaves The stem blades are dark green, narrow, 1/8 to 1/4 inch wide (to 5 mm) and 6 to 12 inches long, parallel-sided, with a keel (boat-shape) at the tips. The underside is usually smooth but the upper surface may have sparse rough hairs. Middle stem leaves are the longest and the flag leaf blade is from 1/2 to 4 inches long. (The flag leaf is the one immediately under the seed head.) Sheaths and ligules The leaf sheath is split at the top but closed for 1/4 to 1/2 the length at the base, dark green, without hair and distinctly veined. Ligules are 0.9 to 2 mm long, and quite variable - either smooth or rough, truncate to rounded, with fine marginal hair or without. Inflorescence The flowering panicle has an open pyramidal shape, narrow to broad, 2 to 15 cm long, with 30 to 100+ spikelets and 2 to 7 branches per panicle node. The branches become spreading at maturity with the spikelets crowded in the upper half of the branches. The spikelets are 3.5 to 6 mm long, the length 3.5 times the width. They have 2 to 5 florets each. The glumes are unequal in size, usually distinctly shorter than the adjacent lemmas, distinctly keeled with the keel having sparse to dense fine rough hairs. The lower glume is 1.5 to 4 mm long, 1 to 3 veined and narrowly lanceolate. The upper glume is 2 to 4.5 mm long, shorter than or equaling the lowest lemma. The lemmas are 2 to 4.3 mm long, distinctly keeled, the keels and marginal veins with long fine hairs. Below the lemma keel appears a web of crimped hairs. There are 3 anthers. Seeds Very small, 1 - 4 mm long, ellipsoidal in shape - about 2,177,000 seeds per pound. • Irrigation system installation. Sprinklers | North York | Green Warriors Landscaping

Home > Services > Irrigation > Irrigation in North York Underground Lawn Irrigation and Sprinkler System Installation in North York, Ontario. Visit our Visit our Green Warriors has installed a number of sprinkler irrigation systems in North York, all of which can be programmed to follow a schedule that is set to comply with the water recommendations in place. With your irrigation system taking care of the work for you, you are free to enjoy the summer without having to worry about wasting water or dry grass. With an automated sprinkler irrigation system, setting it up to follow your desired schedule becomes the hardest part of watering your lawn! There is no need to plan and time your day to make sure that you are following your city’s watering guidelines and recommendations—your irrigation takes care of all of the timing for you. The hours spent watering the lawn are returned to you when you have an irrigation system installed. Travelling is made easier because you will have an irrigation system taking care of the watering needs of your lawn instead of having to ask for help and inconvenience someone to do it for you while you are away. A sprinkler system will also be the environmentally friendly option since it will water your lawn with precisely the right amount of water that it needs to be healthy, and green. Sprinkler systems will also prevent leaving any standing water, which would be a breeding ground for plant disease of fungi. When your lawn is being consistently watered by an irrigation system, it grows healthy and lush, leaving little to no room for any weeds to establish themselves. A drip irrigation system delivers water to the root ball of the plants in your garden bed, which helps to deprive weeds of the moisture available for the plants you want in your garden, and makes it hard for the weed to establish itself among your desired plants. After the initial cost your sprinkler irrigation system will save you money on your monthly water bill by only using exactly enough water for the grass to grow well in your lawn, and leave little to loss from evaporation and over-watering. It also increases the property value of your home when you have a sprinkler system installed, since you will have curb appeal from the vibrant lawn and plants in your yard. The optimal maintenance solution to keep your lawn looking great is to install a sprinkler irrigation system. There are only benefits once you have your irrigation system watering the grass for you—more time to spend doing what you love, less money spent on the water bill, and peace of mind from not having to plan for the extra task in your day because the irrigation system will keep your lawn looking great for you! Booking for 2023 Irrigation system Installation in North York is OPEN ! The city of North York Water Use By-Law North York, originally a regional agricultural hub and collection of scattered independent communities to the north of the Old City of Toronto, is an administrative district of Toronto, having become a city in 1979. It is located between Scarborough to the west, and Etobicoke to the east, with Old Toronto, York, and East York located to the south of North York. Before becoming an administrative district of Toronto in 1998, North York was a municipal City. The former North York Mayor—Mel Lastman—became the very first mayor of the new “Mega City” that Toronto became with North York in its addition. Many annual community events are held in North York at its largest civic venue: Mel Lastman Square, named after the popular mayor. The square also holds the North York Public Library, offices, restaurants, shops, and impressively its own station on the Yonge-University line. You will find two out of five of Toronto’s major shopping malls in North York: Yorkdale Shopping Centre, and Fairview Mall. North York is also home to a few major hospitals, as well as college and university campuses. The Ontario Science Centre, Black Creek Pioneer Village, and the Toronto Aerospace Museum are attractions found in the city. Developed after the expansion of the subway system to Finch Station, North York City Centre is located on Yonge St. Between Finch and Sheppard Avenue, and it is the central business district in North York. The charming neighbourhoods of North York are subject to the City of Toronto recommendations and restrictions on water use. The City recommends that you water no more than once a week, and during off peak hours, between 11:00 pm – 8:00 am, and during an “Outdoor Water Use Advisory” the City requests that all residential properties and businesses voluntarily stop watering the lawn and other non-essential outdoor water use, which applies to those in North York. If there is an active water use advisory, it will be issued by the General Manager of Toronto Water, however it is not a formal By-law that bans lawn watering. With a sprinkler irrigation system, any recommendations and advisories are effortless to follow. • What is wollastonite?| What is wollastonite used for?| Green Warriors Landscaping

Home > Learn > Wollastonite Wollastonite How to apply wollastonite Annually spread wollastonite at a rate of 4 to 9lb per 100 sq.ft. Apply at a higher rate to manage existing issues: yellowing, pests, diseases, soil compaction, and acidity. For example if you lawn is 40 ft x50 ft = 2000 sq.ft./100 sq.ft = 20 * 6lb (average application rate) = 120 lb of wollastonite. Wollastonite, its formula CaSiO3, is a calcium-silicate mineral which forms naturally when impure limestone is subjected to high temperatures and pressure. It is relatively rare, produced in a handful of places throughout the world. Its high versatility is due to its distinctive chemical composition, mineralogical structure and physical properties. This mineral has SO many uses because of its unique characteristics, but chances are that you haven’t heard of it. Its current applications include: paints, ceramics, plastics, friction products (brakes, clutches), construction materials (safe substitute for asbestos), environmental rehabilitation (phosphorus and heavy metal absorption), and most surprisingly: as a natural grub treatment and fertilizer! Wollastonite is bright white with a pearly luster, and when it is fractured, this soft mineral (4.5-5 on the Mohs scale) splinters unevenly into needle-like fragments. It is because of those splinters that it is successful as a grub treament—the tiny crystals pierce and lacerate the grubs which leads to their dehydration and death. As a fertilizer, when wollastonite breaks down it becomes a great natural soil amendment, supplying calcium (Ca), plant available silicon (Si), and traces of magnesium (Mg) and other beneficial elements to the soil. These help to increase carbon storage, balance the pH of the soil, and increase environmental stress tolerance in the plants by strengthening their root systems.
